Our Top Pick!

Sennheiser HD 25 Professional

When it comes to DJ headphones, many DJs believe the HD 25 to be the industry standard. The audio is of exceptional quality.

Meet the Winners!

If you’re looking for inexpensive or budget headphones, I don’t suggest going any less expensive than the BEHRINGER HPX6000 (which is priced at around $50). You must keep in mind that you need a headphone that can generate a high SPL with high-quality sound. Most headphones priced under $50 or even under $100 simply don’t perform well in this regard.

The Sony MDR-7506 is a fantastic headphone to get your feet wet with if you’re just starting out and need good headphones to get started. The MDR-7506 is a budget-friendly headphone with great sound. To get started, you should have headphones that sound great so you can hear everything clearly.

The Beats Mixr will be your best DJ headphone if the bass is what you’re after. With the distinctive bass boost for which Beats is known, the Mixr sounds much better than any other Beats model. The Mixr is also very adaptable, making it suitable for both general use and DJing.

The Sennheiser HD 25 is one of the loudest DJ headphones on the market if power is what you’re after. The HD 25, which was initially created to dampen the Concorde’s sonic boom, provides excellent passive noise cancellation and can withstand noise levels up to 120 dB without distortion or breakup. This is more than you should need because 120 dB will seriously harm your ears.

The V-MODA Crossfade M-100 is a well-liked option when it comes to the toughest DJ headphones. The Pioneer DJ HDJ-X10-K is equally durable, though. The HDJ-X10-K is the more expensive of the two, with the price difference between them being about $100. Even though both headphones deliver high-quality sound, the HDJ-X10-K has a slight advantage in terms of sound quality over the M-100.

Some people prefer an over-ear fit, while others prefer an on-ear fit, so comfort can be somewhat individualized. All of the headphones we discuss in this article are, I have to admit, fairly comfortable, but there are a few that stand out.

The Sennheiser HD 25 is incredibly cozy for an on-ear fit. Keep in mind that these were created with Concorde passengers in mind, who were typically wealthy and demanding. Thus, the HD 25 offers a high degree of comfort. Additionally, you can choose different types of foam softness and even the material that the foam is covered in when you buy replacement ear pads.

The Pioneer DJ HDJ-X10-K is the clear winner if over-the-ear headphones are your preference. Carl Cox, who has a larger-than-average head size, finds the Pioneer HDJ-X10-K headphones to be comfortable, so anyone else will as well. Pioneer put a lot of effort into making these a great pair of DJ headphones.

The Beats Mixr would be your best two options if you’re looking for a DJ headphone that you can use for travel, everyday use, etc. The Mixr is best suited for flying because it includes an in-flight adapter. Both of these options include a unique mobile/travel cable with an integrated microphone and remote.

Consider the portability factor, especially if you frequently travel for gigs. DJ headphones with a swivel mechanism and a foldable design allow for easy storage and transport, ensuring you’re always ready to hit the stage.

Specs & Features

Ear Pad Fit:On-Ear
Impedance:70 ohms
Max SPL:120 dB
Speaker Driver:Unspecified

The Sennheiser HD 25 is the first product that comes to mind whenever someone asks me for a great DJ headphone. I’m a huge fan of the Sennheiser brand because they create and produce some of the best professional audio products available today and offer fantastic after-sale support.

On-ear headphones with some of the most cutting-edge passive attenuation technology available are the Sennheiser HD 25. The HD 25 was initially created for Concorde passengers in the middle to end of the 1980s. The HD 25 was created as a result of the Concorde’s need for a headphone with high attenuation due to its ability to break the sound barrier.

When it comes to DJ headphones, many DJs believe the HD 25 to be the industry standard. The sound quality is exceptional and can handle loud sound pressure levels without distortion or breakup. This is crucial for DJ applications because it allows you to reference or beat mix while listening to a loud sound system around you.

The HD 25 is made primarily of plastic, which accounts for its light weight of just 5oz. The circular memory foam ear pads are encased in pleather and have a comfortable fit on the ears. On Amazon, you can find a variety of ear-pad replacement options for the HD 25 if you don’t like pleather.

The HD 25 has a very adaptable design that allows the ear cups to independently swivel and rotate so you can wear them however you feel most comfortable while mixing. The swivel mechanisms on the headphones are simple to use and move about with. You can easily adjust the headphone position – even with just one hand – because the clamping pressure or fit is firm without being tight.

Additionally, the headband can be opened, allowing you to position the HD 25 so that it rests on your head at the ideal angle. There aren’t many headphones on the market with as many fit options as the HD 25. The headphones have a leather pouch and can be folded up to be small. excellent for travel.

The HD 25 includes a lightweight, 10-foot straight cable. This makes it possible to move around while wearing the HD 25 without the cable tripping you up or weighing them down. A fixed 1/8-inch connector threaded for a 1/4-inch adapter is included with the cable. The Sennheiser HD 25 Plus comes with a 10ft straight cable and a 10ft coiled cable if you prefer that.

What You Will Receive

  • Sennheiser HD 25
  • ¼-inch adapter

Conclusion

The HD 25 is a superb DJ headphone, regardless of your level of experience. The HD 25 is ideal in many ways, including its high SPL handling capacity with high attenuation (thanks Concorde! ), outstanding sound quality, portability, and adaptability to fit perfectly on your head and ears. The only reason you wouldn’t like the HD 25 is if you don’t like the on-ear fit, but even in this case, give them a shot before you write them off as being unsuitable for you. The HD 25 is an affordable option for both beginners and experts at less than $150.

2. Beyerdynamic DT 1350 PRO

Speakers-Reviewed-Score-4-9

Specs & Features

Ear Pad Fit:On-Ear
Impedance:80 ohms
Max SPL:129 dB
Speaker Driver:Unspecified

Another incredibly well-liked on-ear headphone among DJs and sound engineers is the Beyerdynamic DT 1350 PRO. The headphones are well-fitting and provide excellent isolation and attenuation. The DT 1350 PRO has a similar layout to the Sennheiser HD 25, but more metal than plastic is used in its construction. The DT 1350 now weighs 1.1 oz more than the HD 25 due to this. Only the ear cups are made of plastic in the Beyerdynamic DT 1350 PRO’s almost entirely lightweight brushed metal construction. Soft memory foam is used for the headband and ear pads, which are encased in high-quality pleather.

Similar to the Sennheiser HD 25, the headband of the Beyerdynamic DT 1350 PRO splits to provide a secure fit and the freedom to position the headphones on your head however you like. While mixing, you can move around or even jump up and down without discomfort because the clamping pressure is firm but not uncomfortable on the ears. There is no risk of the DT 1350 coming off. To provide the best fit while mixing, the ear cups independently swivel and rotate 90 degrees. Additionally, you are able to easily mix while only wearing one ear cup and still maintain a tight fit thanks to this.

The Beyerdynamic DT 1350 PRO has outstanding audio quality. The treble does have a slight dip, but this does take away any harshness when listening at higher SPL, which is frequently the case for DJs, with its firm on-ear fit and good passive isolation, the DT 1350 PRO blocks out as much ambient noise as possible.

The headphones’ 10-foot coiled cable makes them ideal for both the DJ booth and the recording studio. The cable has a threaded 1/8-inch connector and a 1/4-inch adapter so you can connect it to any piece of machinery. Additionally, a travel adapter for in-flight use is included with the DT 1350 PRO. The headphones’ ability to travel is increased by the way they fold up into a small package. These headphones fit easily into your carry-on bag because they weigh only 6.1 ounces.

What You Will Receive

  • Beyerdynamic DT 1350 PRO
  • ¼-inch adapter
  • In-flight adapter
  • Carry pouch

Conclusion

The Beyerdynamic DT 1350 PRO is a great choice if you prefer headphones with a metal finish in the majority of their construction. The headphones are similar to the well-known Sennheiser HD 25 in terms of design and provide fierce competition on almost all fronts. Another reputable name in professional audio is Beyerdynamic, which provides outstanding after-sales support. Both DJs and audio professionals should consider the DT 1350 PRO for live and studio settings.

3. V-MODA Crossfade M-100

Speakers-Reviewed-Score-4-9

Specs & Features

Ear Pad Fit:On-Ear
Impedance:32 ohms
Max SPL:109 dB
Speaker Driver:50 mm

Loss or damage while travelling is one of the biggest problems you encounter with DJ headphones. Although you can’t do much about losing your headphones, you can buy the incredibly robust V-MODA Crossfade M-100 to prevent damage. The Crossfade M-100 headphones from V-MODA are the toughest on the market and were created specifically for travelling DJs and electronic musicians.

The Crossfade M-100 is entirely made of metal, with the exception of pleather ear pads. Even the hinges are made of metal components that V-MODA specifically created. V-MODA creates the most enduring headphones that are admired by DJs and regular consumers thanks to this quality and attention to detail.

Without showing any signs of breaking, the Crossfade M-100 can be bent and twisted in any direction. Excellent for artists looking for a piece of gear that can withstand the strains of travelling.

The Crossfade M-100’s dual 50mm drivers in each ear cup provide excellent sound quality. While the second driver produces the midrange and treble, the first driver produces the bass. V-MODA decided to separate the bass from the mids and highs because there is a slight bump in the bass response.

The end result is a headphone with punchy, bottom-heavy bass that is ideal for urban and dance music genres. The accentuated bass response doesn’t muddy the clean mids and highs in any way. Remember that the Crossfade M-100 is the ideal mixer for DJing. The Crossfade M-100 wouldn’t make a good reference headphone for studio use because of the amplified bass.

A 10-foot straight cable and a 3-foot mobile cable with a microphone and button are included with the Crossfade M-100. The Kevlar-wrapped 10-foot straight cable provides the highest level of durability. The 1/8-inch adapter is rotated 45 degrees to allow the connector to swivel without overstretching the cable, increasing durability. V-MODA is very serious about durability!

With a built-in microphone for hands-free calling, the shorter mobile cable is excellent for travelling. Because the remote and microphone are separate, it is simpler to reach and use the remote because it is farther down the cable and the mic is closer to the mouth. Although perhaps not beneficial to your DJ career, these features will be appreciated when travelling between gigs.

The ability to alter the ear cup shields is one of the coolest features of V-MODA headphones. To have your own custom design or logo printed on the ear-pad shield, visit the V-MODA website and submit it there. Make sure your design is in black and white since the graphic will be laser-burned onto the surface. Multiple colours won’t show, but they might produce odd shading.

Exoskeleton hardshell case for the Crossfade M-100 is included to protect the headphones while travelling. The headphones can easily fit in your carry-on or record bag because they fold up to be incredibly small.

What You Will Receive

  • V-MODA Crossfade M-100
  • 3ft 1-Button SpeakEasy Mic cable
  • 10ft SharePlay Audio Cable
  • ¼-inch adapter
  • Exoskeleton hardshell case
  • Carabiner clip
  • V-MODA sticker

Conclusion

Consider switching to the V-MODA Crossfade M-100 if you frequently break your DJ headphones. The Crossfade M-100 has dual 50mm drivers that separate the bass from the mids and highs. Because of this, V-MODA can produce a bass response that is amplified without muddying the other frequency ranges, which is a problem with all bass-heavy headphones.

DJs and travellers can choose between two cables for the Crossfade M-100 depending on their needs. The Crossfade M-100 DJ headphones cost a little bit more than the majority of DJ headphones, but they are also made to last much longer.

4. Pioneer DJ HDJ-X10-K Professional DJ Headphone

Speakers-Reviewed-Score-4-8

Specs & Features

Ear Pad Fit:On-Ear
Impedance:32 ohms
Max SPL:106 dB
Speaker Driver:50 mm

For many years, the DJ market has been associated with the Pioneer brand. Since CD mixing became popular in the 1990s, their selection of CDJ turntables and DJM mixers has served as the industry standard. Although Pioneer’s headphone selection is less well known, DJs like Carl Cox and Roger Sanchez (to name a few) have been using and promoting Pioneer headphones for years.

The new Pioneer DJ flagship headphone, the HDJ-X10-K, is incredibly impressive. The headphones are almost entirely made of metal, giving them a chunky but not overly heavy 11.5oz weight. Even when dancing or jumping around, the large over-ear design clamps over the head with a good amount of weight to keep the headphones sitting comfortably on your head. The roomy earpads have soft memory foam inside and a luxurious pleather cover that fits snuggly over the ear. Even when worn for a long time, there is little wearer fatigue.

The HDJ-X10-K has amazing sound. The frequency response is essentially flat and has a very true sound because these headphones were created (sonically) to be used in live and studio applications. Excellent detail and separation are revealed by the HDJ-X10-K, which is crucial when blending in noisy environments.

I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a pair of headphones that have been put through US Military Testing despite looking at and listening to a lot of headphones over the years. The Pioneer DJ HDJ-X10-K underwent MIL-STD-810G, or more simply put, they were mistreated by the US Military and managed to survive. It appears that Pioneer is beating V-MODA at their own game!

A waterproof nano-coating is another feature of the HDJ-X10-K that guards against splashes and, most importantly, sweat. This is a great feature to protect your HDJ-X10-K from sweat and grime, which frequently shortens the lifespan of DJ headphones. especially considering that they are about $350! To demonstrate their commitment to the durability of the HDJ-X10-K, Pioneer does offer a strong 2-year warranty on it.

A 5.2-foot straight cable and a 10-foot coil of cable are included with the HDJ-X10-K. The detachable cables have a reliable 4-pin audio connector that not only locks in place to secure the cable but also provides the mixer and headphones with better audio transmission. The Pioneer DJ carry case is the best addition to the extras. One of the strongest cases offered with any DJ headphones is this one. The hard shell case comes with sleeves for your SD and USB drives as well as a pouch for your cables and a 1/4-inch adapter.

What You Will Receive

  • Pioneer DJ HDJ-X10-K
  • 5.2ft straight cable
  • 10ft coiled cable
  • ¼-inch adapter
  • Hardshell carry case

Conclusion

For those who are serious about their craft, want exceptional sound quality, and aren’t afraid to spend a little more for the extra quality, the Pioneer DJ HDJ-X10-K Professional DJ Headphones are a necessity. Given that the HDJ-X10-K delivers on every level, its $350 price tag is entirely justified. How can you disagree with that if DJs like Carl Cox and Roger Sanchez say that these are the best DJ headphones?

5. Sennheiser HD 8 DJ Headphones

Speakers-Reviewed-Score-4-7

Specs & Features

Ear Pad Fit:Over-Ear
Impedance:95 ohms
Max SPL:115 dB
Speaker Driver:Unspecified

Consider the Sennheiser HD 8 DJ Headphones if you like the Sennheiser HD25 but aren’t as keen on an on-ear style headphone. The ear pads’ large over-ear design allows them to fit over the ears comfortably, providing the utmost comfort and superb noise isolation.

The majority of the Sennheiser HD 8’s lightweight metal construction gives the headphones a sturdy quality in the hands. Only the ear cups are made of plastic, but even they have a high-end feel to them. The ear pads are made of plush memory foam and are encased in high-quality pleather. You can bend, twist, and manipulate the headphones in any direction thanks to the soft rubber headband without having to worry about breaking or harming your HD 8. In a nutshell, the construction has a fashionable finish and is strong. What you would expect from a high-end pair of DJ headphones.

When you pick up and put on the HD 8, the distinctive design of the headphones will be the first thing you notice. Because of the dogleg connection between the headband and ear cups, the headband can lean forward against the head. No matter how you decide to wear them, each ear cup has a decent amount of swivel and can independently rotate a little more than 90° forwards and backward.

The HD 8 can be worn on one ear with this design while beat mixing or referencing. The HD 8 is a comfortable headphone to wear for extended periods of time because the headband rests forward on the head, relieving pressure on the crown.

The Sennheiser HD 8 is a step above other headphones in terms of sound quality. The HD 8 offers exceptional frequency balance and audio quality that is almost “audiophile.” Without any bass boost to dominate the rest of the frequency range, the low end is deep and punchy. It’s possible to hear every fine detail thanks to the crystal-clear mids and highs, which is crucial when mixing in noisy environments. The HD 8 can be used in live and studio settings due to its superior audio quality. A headphone that is truly adaptable for both DJs and audio professionals.

What You Will Receive

  • Sennheiser HD 8
  • 10ft coiled cable
  • 10ft straight cable
  • ¼-inch adapter
  • 1 x additional velour ear pads
  • Premium carry case

Conclusion

One of those headphones that are frequently disregarded and underappreciated as a DJ headphone is the Sennheiser HD 8. The HD 8 is the ideal DJ headphone because of its durable construction and superior audio quality; it can withstand high SPL and anything the road can dish out. The Sennheiser HD 8 costs $250, which is slightly more than many DJ headphones but unquestionably worth the price.

6. Beats Mixr

Speakers-Reviewed-Score-4-7

Specs & Features

Ear Pad Fit:On-Ear
Impedance:Unspecified
Max SPL:Unspecified
Speaker Driver:40 mm

Dr. Dre Beats DJs and audio experts frequently have a negative perception of headphones. The most frequent criticism is that the headphones’ excessive bass muddies the overall sound quality. David Guetta urged Beats to produce top-notch headphones. The Beats Mixr is the outcome. a headphone designed in particular to meet the needs of DJs and electronic musicians.

The Beats Mixr’s lightweight metal construction is the first thing you’ll notice. This sturdy, lightweight headphone is ideal for a travelling DJ’s life on the road. The headband is covered in a high-quality, flexible rubberized material. A thin layer of memory foam that is positioned against the head with comfort is inside the headband.

The Mixr is simple to wear in any position, even on just one ear for beat-mixing, thanks to the ear cups’ ability to rotate about 270 degrees forward and backwards. Soft memory foam that is covered in pleather makes up the ear pads, which fit comfortably. No matter how you choose to wear the headphones, there is a good amount of clamping pressure on them that enables passive noise-cancellation and secures the Mixr.

Two cables are included with the Beats Mixr. A 5.2-foot straight cable for DJing, and a cable with an inline remote and microphone for use while travelling and with mobile devices. Remember that Apple now owns Beats, so while the shorter cable’s remote is fully compatible with Apple devices, it might not function as well with non-Apple devices. Depending on which side your equipment or device is on, the Mixr lets you plug the headphone cable into either the left or right ear cup. For use while travelling, Beats also includes an in-flight adapter.

The Beats Mixr’s sound is excellent for DJs even though it is by no means flat or audiophile quality. The Mixr has a lot of bass, which is to be expected, but it has a lot more punch and definition than a woolly bass response. More so than any other Beats headphones I have heard, the midrange and treble are crystal clear and have an unexpected amount of detail. The Beats Mixr will make great DJ headphones for urban and dance music. You might hear a little bit more bass than you would like in rock and other genres.

What You Will Receive

  • Beats Mixr DJ Headphones
  • 5.2ft audio cable
  • 5.2ft In-line control & mic cable
  • ¼” adapter cable
  • In-flight adapter
  • Carrying case
  • Beats cleaning cloth

Conclusion

More than just a DJ headphone was intended when the Beats Mixr was created. It’s a headphone that works well for traveling and DJing and has good looks, sound, and durability. Because of the style and status that come with wearing a pair of Beats headphones, many people choose to do so. You frequently have to compromise on sound quality in favor of this style. I believe you get a good balance of style and audio quality with the Beats Mixr. The Beats Mixr is not for you if you do not like loud bass sounds. If you enjoy bass, you’ll undoubtedly adore the Beats Mixr.

7. Sony MDR-7506 Stereo Professional Headphones

Speakers-Reviewed-Score-4-6

Specs & Features

Ear Pad Fit:Over-Ear
Impedance:63 ohms
Max SPL:106 dB
Speaker Driver:40 mm

One of the most well-known and well-established headphones on the market is probably the Sony MDR-7506. The MDR-7506 has been around for a while and is frequently used in the studio and for DJing. The MDR-7506 headphones are so well-liked because they produce excellent sound, fit comfortably over the ears for passive attenuation, and, most importantly, are reasonably priced.

The MDR-V6 model of the MDR-7506 was first made available in 1985. The 1985 design was carried over into the 1991 release of the 7506. In contrast to the more fashionable and modern headphones available today, the MDR-7506 still has a traditional headphone design. Having said that, the 7506 is portable and fits the head and ears well.

The headband is made of a sturdy metal inner that is covered in leather. The headband of the headphones has very little padding, but they still fit comfortably and do not cause any strain. Since the ear pads haven’t changed much since 1985, the soft foam isn’t actually memory foam of high quality, and the pleather cover isn’t all that great either. Since there is a wide variety of ear pad replacements available on Amazon, this is not a serious problem.

The Sony MDR-7506 excels in terms of audio quality. The MDR-7506’s flat sound signature is one of its main detractors. Although the MDR-7506’s bass response isn’t as powerful as that of the Sennheiser HD 8 or HD 25, it still offers exceptional detail and clarity. To provide brilliant clarity and excellent separation, the treble and midrange are present without being overpowering. The MDR-7506 isn’t much in terms of looks, but the sound is incredible!

What You Will Receive

  • Sony MDR-7506
  • ¼-inch adapter
  • Soft carry pouch

Conclusion

The Sony MDR-7506 will be your best option if you’re looking for DJ headphones that can be used both in the studio and during live performances. The MDR-7506 is one of the best-sounding DJ headphones on the market, despite their somewhat retro appearance (they date from the 1980s). The Sony MDR-7506 is by far the best DJ headphone under $100. In fact, the MDR-7506 rivals the audio quality of headphones that cost two or even three times as much.

The wishbone, which joins the headband and ear cup, is made of plastic and is fragile, which is the MDR-7506’s only significant drawback. Replacements are readily available from Sony or on Amazon, and they are simple to replace on your own. Nothing irreparable, but still significant to note.

8. Audio-Technica ATH-M50x Professional Headphones

Speakers-Reviewed-Score-4-5

Specs & Features

Ear Pad Fit:Over-Ear
Impedance:38 ohms
Max SPL:99 dB
Speaker Driver:45 mm

The Audio-Technica ATH-M50x is another wildly popular headphone that has endured the test of time. The M50x is a development of the M50, which DJs and audio professionals have long used extensively. The ATH-M50x has three different cable options, which makes it easier to remove the cable and some audio adjustments that make the M50x warmer and a little clearer than its predecessor.

Despite being entirely made of plastic, the ATH-M50x is a sturdy headphone that can withstand the demands of touring. The wide headband has a luxurious pleather cover over soft memory foam. The ATH-M50x is a really comfortable headphone to wear, even for extended periods of time, thanks to the use of the same materials in the ear pads.

The ATH-M50x swivel 90 degrees forward and backwards rather than rotating back and forth. For single-ear monitoring, you can push the ear cup up rather than rotate it backwards. Pushing the ear cup backwards is just as comfortable as having one ear cup on and the other sitting on top of your head. Both of the ear cups on the headphones can fold up when you take them off, creating a small package that fits easily inside the bag that comes with them.

The ATH-M50x headphones have excellent sound quality. Although not of audiophile calibre, it sounds great and is undoubtedly suitable for DJing. There is no boost in the bass, so it is punchy. Without being harsh or overpowering, the midrange and treble are present. The end result is a good-sounding headphone that will work well for live and studio performances.

Three detachable cables are included with the ATH-M50x by Audio-Technica to make it a flexible headphone. Unfortunately, you are only given the option of plugging the cable into one ear cup rather than both. The 1/8-inch adapter has a twist-lock mechanism to keep the cable in place and prevent it from pulling out, and it fits comfortably and deeply inside the ear cup.

Both the 10ft straight and 10ft coiled cables are suitable for professional audio and DJ applications. Each has a threaded connector that makes it possible to fit the included 1/4-inch adapter without having to remove it. The third cable is a 4-foot straight cable that works well with portable electronics and for travel. Sadly, the shorter cable is devoid of a microphone and a remote.

What You Will Receive

  • Audio-Technica ATH-M50x
  • 10ft straight cable
  • 10ft coiled cable
  • 4ft straight cable for mobile devices and travelling
  • ¼-inch adapter
  • Soft carry pouch

Conclusion

The ATH-M50x is unquestionably a headphone to take into consideration if you’re looking for an affordable over-ear DJ headphone. The roomy earpads are easy to wear over the ear and provide adequate comfort and isolation. Although the Sennheiser costs $100 more, the sound quality is better than the Sennheiser but not as detailed and exciting. The Sony MDR-7506 and the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x are nearly identical, with the Audio-Technica having a more modern aesthetic. If you enjoy Audio-Technica products, you won’t be dissatisfied with the ATH-M50x.

9. Presonus HD9 Professional Monitoring Headphones

Speakers-Reviewed-Score-4-5

Specs & Features

Ear Pad Fit:Over-Ear
Impedance:40 ohms
Max SPL:96 dB
Speaker Driver:45 mm

Presonus creates and produces high-quality, reasonably priced studio and pro audio gear. The HD9 is the pinnacle model from Presonus and was chosen as “Editors’ Choice” by Music Inc Magazine among items displayed at NAMM (which is the biggest professional audio expo in the world).

An over-ear headphone with 45mm drivers is the Presonus HD9. Despite being made entirely of plastic, the headphones are sturdy enough to withstand the strains of touring. A substantial amount of plush memory foam is covered in pleather lines on the headband. Similar soft memory foam and the same pleather lining can be found in the ear pads. The end result is a snug-fitting pair of headphones that are comfortable to wear and won’t cause excessive wear fatigue over time.

The HD9 has a 90° forward and backward swivel design and allows you to reference with just one ear by pushing the ear cup up on top of the ear.

The Presonus HD9 is incredibly impressive for a headphone priced under $100. The sound has a good bottom-end punch and is warm. Although not as detailed as some of the other models we feature in this article, the mids and highs are distinct. The HD9’s generally flat sound is excellent for DJing and monitoring. For mixing or referencing, you get good isolation when the ear pads fit snugly over your ears.

What You Will Receive

  • Presonus HD9
  • ¼-inch adapter
  • Soft carry pouch

Conclusion

The Presonus HD9 is a great option for delivering professional audio quality at an affordable price for a beginner or someone on a tight budget. Although not as detailed as some of the more expensive DJ headphones, the sound is well-balanced.

The Presonus HD7 is a headphone you might want to take into consideration if you’re looking for something under $50. An open-back headphone with a decent bass response and good audio quality is the HD7.

10. BEHRINGER HPX6000 Professional DJ Headphones

Speakers-Reviewed-Score-4-5

Specs & Features

Ear Pad Fit:Over-Ear
Impedance:Unspecified
Max SPL:Unspecified
Speaker Driver:50 mm

I typically cringe just imagining what over-ear headphones for under $50 might sound like. There is no need to shudder when using the BEHRINGER HPX6000. This affordable pair of BEHRINGER headphones have the excellent build quality and great sound.

The HPX6000 are quite nice and chunky in the hand, which is the first thing you’ll notice about them. When DJing, you constantly move the headphones around your head, so the large ear cups fit comfortably in the palm. The HPX6000 has a sleek, matte black rubberized finish that gives them a more premium than budget-friendly feel.

There is a substantial amount of padding with the same rubberized cover where the headband rests on the top of the head. Memory foam and pleather lining are used to cover the ear pads. Due to the extremely thin ear pads, the 50mm driver rests directly on your ear, providing you with a good point of reference.

The HPX6000 sounds surprisingly warm and has a good bottom-end punch. Although not as detailed as you might find in more expensive headphones, the mids and highs are clear. However, the audio quality is good and can generate a high SPL for mixing in noisy environments.

The HPX6000 comes with a separate 1/4-inch adapter and a detachable 10-foot coiled cable with a 1/8-inch connector.

Conclusion

The BEHRINGER HPX6000 is an excellent choice if you’re looking for cheap or entry-level DJ headphones. You won’t find a better pair of over-ear headphones for under $50. In fact, I wouldn’t suggest going with anything other than the Presonus HD7 or BEHRINGER HPX6000. If I had $50 to spend, I would only buy these two products because they are the only two high-quality brand names in this price range. The BEHRINGER HPX6000 offers excellent sound quality at a low cost and costs less than $50.

Buyer’s Guide

Are you still having trouble selecting the best DJ headphones for you? Don’t worry; we’ve put together this brief buyer’s guide to assist you in selecting the best product based on your needs.

What makes DJ headphones different?

DJ headphones are specifically designed to cater to the unique needs of DJs. They offer a range of features that set them apart from regular headphones, ensuring optimal performance during DJ sets. Understanding these differentiating factors will help you make an informed decision when purchasing DJ headphones.

Audio Quality

One of the most crucial aspects of DJ headphones is their audio quality. DJs rely on accurate sound reproduction to fine-tune their mixes and ensure seamless transitions. Look for headphones that provide a wide frequency response range, allowing you to hear the full spectrum of sounds with clarity. Balanced sound, crisp highs, well-defined mids, and punchy lows are all essential for DJs to discern every beat and detail in their tracks.

Clamping Pressure

The clamping pressure of DJ headphones refers to the force with which the headphones grip your head. It’s important to find a balance between a secure fit and comfort. DJ headphones need to stay in place during energetic performances, yet excessive clamping pressure can lead to discomfort and fatigue over time. Opt for headphones with adjustable headbands or swivel mechanisms that allow you to customize the fit according to your preference.

Headphone Fit and Adjustment

Comfort is paramount when choosing DJ headphones, as DJs often wear them for extended periods. Look for headphones with well-padded ear cups and headbands that distribute the weight evenly, reducing pressure on specific areas. Additionally, adjustable ear cups that can rotate or swivel help to achieve a proper fit, accommodating different head shapes and sizes.

Durability

DJing involves frequent travel, live performances, and constant use, making durability a vital consideration. Invest in headphones that are built to withstand the demands of the DJing environment. Look for models with sturdy materials, reinforced cables, and robust construction that can endure the rigours of daily use and on-the-go transportation. This ensures your headphones will be a long-lasting investment and stand up to the challenges of your DJ career.

Conclusion

In the world of DJing, where rhythm reigns supreme, the importance of high-quality DJ headphones cannot be overstated. By choosing the right pair, you’ll gain the ability to immerse yourself in your music, captivate audiences, and reach new heights of artistic expression. So, why settle for the ordinary when you can step into the extraordinary with the best DJ headphones? Embrace the beat, unleash your creativity, and let your music soar like never before.
